CARDINALS HOT ON PIRATES TAIL AFTER BUCS LOSE 6-3 TO EXPOS
The Division race is heating up, with the St. Louis Cardinals now just 2.5 games behind the Pirates. The Cards got by the Cubs, 8-7; while Pittsburgh was losing to Montreal, 6-3.
Bob Johnson started and went four and a third innings. He allowed four runs on six hits and was tagged with the loss. A total of five Pirates pitchers issued seven walks and Johnson also hit a batter. WP-Dan McGinn. LP-Bob Johnson(5-6).
The Bucs have been in an odd pattern of winning a game, then losing a game, for about a week, allowing the Cards to hang around. They will try to get back on track in game two of the series. Bruce Kison faces Ernie McAnally.
