GM# 147 SEPTEMBER 12, 1971 AT MONTREAL EXPOS
BUCS TALLY 3 RUNS IN TOP OF 10TH TO TOPPLE EXPOS, 6-3
After a long stretch of win one, lose one, the Pittsburgh Pirates have put together a two game winning streak, defeating the Montreal Expos, 6-3, in ten innings.
Despite getting a home run and a double from starting pitcher, Nelson Briles, who went six innings, it took a three run blast from Al Oliver, in the top of the tenth, to break a 3-3 deadlock.
There was plenty of offense enroute. Oliver, in addition to his homer, also tripled and singled. Richie Hebner hit a home run, Manny Sanguillen had three doubles; Roberto Clemente had a pair of singles and of course, Briles, who is one of the better hitting pitchers in the league; did his best to ensure a Bucs win. Dave Giusti tossed the eighth and ninth to collect the win in relief. WP-Dave Giusti(5-6). LP-Claude Raymond. HR-Rich Hebner(9), Al Oliver(15), Nelson Briles(1).
Pittsburgh now heads to Wrigley Field to battle the Chicago Cubs.
