Al Brancato hit a lead off triple to begin the top of the tenth inning, then Boston reliever, Bill Fleming threw a wild pitch, allowing Brancato to dance home with what would prove to be the winning run, in a 4-3 victory.
In a see saw battle, the Athletics trailed, 2-1 after seven innings, but scored a run in the top of the eighth to tie the game. Biz Mackey then singled in the top of the ninth stole second, later scoring on a Josh Gibson single to give Philadelphia a 3-2 advantage.
However, Smokey Joe Williams could not hold the lead and the Red Sox tied it in the last of the ninth.
