Philadelphia’s Fred Caligiuri earned his second complete game win of the year, as the Athletics defeated the Detroit Tigers, 5-1, in a short, two game series.
A wild Newhouser walked three batters in the first inning, leading to a pair of runs. Philadelphia had the lead for good after that. Caligiuri worked out of several jams, including a second inning home run to Bruce Campbell, but he would hold the Tigers scoreless the rest of the way.
The Athletics next head to Chicago to face the White Sox.
