The Athletics won a pitcher’s duel with the St. Louis Browns, in a thrilling, bottom of the ninth victory. The score was 0-0, when, in the last of the ninth, Crash Davis singled, then was sacrificed to second by Paige. Cool Papa Bell singled in Davis with the winning run.
Despite several chances, neither team could plate a run. Harris went six innings for St. Louis, before being lifted. The Athletics left ten men on base in this game. It was the third complete game for Paige and his second shutout.
Philadelphia now welcomes the Detroit Tigers to Shibe Park for a three game series.
