Bullet Joe Rogan started and went six innings, allowing two runs. Philadelphia had a 5-0 lead heading into the sixth. The Athletics bullpen was bad. Lefty, Porter Vaughan gave up a run, then eventual losing pitcher, Bump Hadley, surrendered three more.

Meanwhile, Detroit’s bullpen was stellar. John Gorsica and Benton combined to pitch the final five innings, allowing no runs on just one hit. They completely shut down the Athletics offense over the last half of the game. Hal Newhouser started for the Tigers, but was chased after four innings, having allowed five runs.
