Satchel Paige went seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits, then Lum Harris finished up with a scoreless relief job, as Philadelphia edged Cleveland, 3-2, in the series opener.

Cleveland opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first, but Bagby ran into control problems in the Athletics first inning. He issued four walks, along with three singles, as Philly took a 3-1 lead. Ken Keltner’s homer in the top of the third would give the Indians their final run of the game.
