The first game of the double header was the sixth straight win for the Philadelphia Athletics, as the routed the Boston Red Sox, 10-4. Satchel Paige got the win to improve to 9-1. Josh Gibson and Ted Williams went deep.

Boston ended Philadelphia’s win streak in game two, with a walkoff win, as Smokey Joe Williams gave up the winning run in the bottom of the ninth, in a 4-3 loss. Williams has struggled mightily, since his three saves earlier in the year. He has lost three straight games and his ERA has ballooned to 6.64.

There are two games left to go in the Red Sox series.
