Despite a pair of home runs from slugging catcher, Josh Gibson, Philadelphia’s bullpen stumbled after starter Fred Caligiuri left with a 4-3 lead and eventually lost to Detroit, 7-5.
Left handed specialist, Porter Vaughan came in and allowed a single, a walk and a bases clearing triple, all to left handed batters, without recording a single putout.
Caligiuri, who was lucky to escape with a no decision, was hit as hard as he’s been all year. He allowed three runs on nine hits, in six innings, including two triples and two doubles.
