After dropping their fourth straight game, the Philadelphia Athletics and New York Yankees are virtually tied for first place in the American League standings.
The Athletics hold a slim, .654 to .635 percentage point lead, but for all practical purposes, the two teams share the top spot. It’s largely a two team race at this stage, as Cleveland is in third place, eleven games back.
Philadelphia lost once again to the cellar dwelling Browns, this time by a 7-5 score. Despite getting two home runs from Bob Johnson, Tom Ferrick surrendered two runs in the bottom of the eighth, breaking a 5-5 tie.
The team has dropped four straight, matching their longest losing streak of the year, set back in June. The final game of the series with the Browns is today, then the Athletics head to Chicago to play back to back double headers over two days.
