ATHLETICS END ROAD TRIP WITH TWINBILL SWEEP OF WHITE SOX
PHI 4 13 2
CHI 2 9 0 11 INNINGS
WP-TOM FERRICK(3-4) LP-PETE APPLETON
HR-JOSH GIBSON(25)
Josh Gibson clubbed his league leading, twenty fifth home run in very first inning; a two run blast which put Philadelphia out front. A Benny McCoy bobble led to a pair of unearned runs in the third inning, knotting the score.
McCoy made up for his error by stroking a two run single in the top of the eleventh inning, putting the Athletics back on top. Brancato then doubled in an insurance run as Philadelphia went on to win, 4-2.
PHI 3 6 0
CHI 0 3 0
WP-SMOKEY JOE WILLIAMS(3-4) LP-BUCK ROSS
HR-JOSH GIBSON(25)
Joe Williams was brilliant in his second spot start, tossing a three hit shutout, his first of the year, in a 3-0 Athletics sweep. In what was largely a pitcher’s duel, Philadelphia could only manage six hits against Ross, two of them from McCoy, who doubled and singled and scored one of the team’s three runs.
The team returns to Shibe Park in two days, to battle the St. Louis Browns in a three game series.
