Several bench players had major contributions, as Philadelphia won, 7-4, taking the series from St. Louis, two games to three.

Sam Chapman and Crash Davis each had a pair of doubles and third string catcher, Hal Wagner got a start, while #2 backstop, Biz Mackey played shortstop. Wagner responded with three hits.

Fred Caligiuri started, but was ineffective, allowing four runs in just four innings pitched. The Athletics plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth, for a 7-4 lead, which they never relinquished.

The Detroit Tigers next come into town, for a four game series, winding up with a double header.
