GM# 103 AUGUST 7, 1941 AT WASHINGTON SENATORS
ATHLETICS FALL TO SENATORS, 2-1
PHI 1 7 1
WSH 2 8 2
WP-SID HUDSON LP-FRED CALIGIURI(13-3)
The Athletics have been in a weird pattern of winning a game, then losing a game, over the past three series. It happened again, for after shutting the Senators out, 10-0, in the first contest, they dropped the final game of the series, 2-1.
Fred Caligiuri started and went six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits. More than the pitching though, it was Philadelphia’s offense which couldnt get a spark. They left 12 men on base and twice couldn’t score with the bases loaded.
Smokey Joe Williams did what he could, tossing two innings of scoreless relief, to keep his club in the game. Dandridge and Leonard both had a pair of hits.
Philadelphia now returns home and kicks off a big, four game series against their arch rival, the New York Yankees. Satchel Paige will be on the hill for game one.
