Philadelphia rolled past New York, 8-2, in the first of a crucial, four game series at Shibe Park. Ray Dandridge led the offense, going 4-5, with a pair of doubles and two runs scored. The Athletics rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth, to put the game out of reach.
Satchel Paige toiled seven innings, scattering six hits, while fanning seven and walking two batters. He collected his seventeenth win against just two defeats.
