The Athletics trailed, 7-1, after one inning. Starter, Lum Harris allowed four runs, then Bump Hadley relived and gave up a home run to Red Rolfe, his second of the game. All his runs were unearned however, due to a Brancato error. Smokey Joe Williams stepped in and pitched three scoreless innings. That allowed Philadelphia to battle back. They scored two in the third, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the top of the ninth, tying the game at eight all. Porter Vaughan gave up the winning run in the bottom of the eleventh, in the 9-8 loss.
Philadelphia doesn’t play on August 18th. Standings will be posted then.
