The Athletics got a pair of home runs from Biz Mackey, but it wasn’t enough, as St. Louis outlasted Philadelphia in an 11-8 slugfest. Bump Hadley started and was only able to go three and two thirds innings. He surrendered seven runs in that span, though three were unearned, courtesy of Al Brancato’s 19th error.
Philadelphia scored three runs in the top of the ninth, to make things interesting, but ultimately, ran out of gas.
