The Boston Red Sox staved off a late rally, edging the Philadelphia Athletics, 4-3, to end a seven game winning streak for the visitors.
It was certainly a game that Al Brancato would like to forget. The Athletics keystone sacker made two errors, both of which led to runs, struck out twice and grounded out in the top of the ninth, with a runner on third and a chance to tie the game.
On a more positive note, Josh Gibson clubbed his 40th home run. These two teams have a double header to close out the series.
