JOSH GIBSON TRAILS IN TWO OF THREE TRIPLE CROWN CATEGORIES
Philadelphia’s Josh Gibson is having a tremendous year, however, the coveted Triple Crown, awarded to a player who leads the league in Batting Average, Home Runs and Runs Batted in, all at the same time; is a longshot at this point.
The Athletics backstop is currently leading the American League in home runs, with 40. Charlie Keller of the New York Yankees, is quite a bit behind, with 32. However, Gibson’s .398 batting average is second to Boston’s Ted Williams, who is attempting to be the first player to break the .400 mark since Bill Terry, in 1930. Williams currently sits at .407.
It’s a very close race for the RBI lead, with New York’s’ Joe DiMaggio on top with 112; Keller follows with 111, and Gibson pulls in third with 110.
