PHI 5 9 1
WSH 4 10 0
WP-BILL FOSTER(15-5) SV-TOM FERRICK(11) LP-KEN CHASE
Philadelphia scored four runs off Ken Chase in the first inning, highlighted by a bases clearing triple from Bob Johnson. His big day continued in the top of the third, when he doubled in Josh Gibson, giving the Athletics a 5-0 lead.
Though given a five run lead, starter, Bill Foster faltered in the fourth. With one out, he booted a ball of the bat of Mickey Vernon. Two singles followed, then Jimmy Bloodworth plated a run with a sacrifice fly. Senators pitcher, Red Anderson, brought the crowd to their feet, by blasting a three run home run, pulling Washington within one run.
The key from that point was Philadelphia’s bullpen. Joe Williams tossed four innings of scoreless relief, then Tom Ferrick pitched a clean bottom of the ninth, to earn his eleventh save.
