A Dick Siebert error in the top of the ninth proved costly, as Washington pushed across a run, breaking a 1-1 tie and going on to a 2-1 win. The victory snapped a five game win streak for Philadelphia. Early Wynn tossed seven strong innings, his only blip coming when Sam Chapman clubbed a solo homer in the last of the sixth.
