In a make up game from earlier in the season, Philadelphia defeated the Detroit Tigers, 4-1, behind a complete game effort from Big Bill Foster. The #3 man in the rotation limited the Tiges to just four hits, in his sixth complete game this year.

The game was tied, 1-1, when the Athletics erupted for three runs in the bottom of the eighth.

The Athletics are not scheduled to play until September 20th, when they take on the Washington Senators at Griffith Park, in a three game series. The New York Yankees, in second place, also are idle until September 20th, when they battle the Boston Red Sox.

As the pennant race has come down to just two teams, only Philadelphia and New York’s record will be shown until all the games are completed.
