Connie Mack’s bold experiment has paid off. Signing several stars from the Negro Leagues has turned out to be the right move, as they’ve rewarded Mack with an American League pennant, for the city of Philadelphia, in 1941.

A two base error by Johnny Sturm, in the top of the seventh inning, led to an unearned run, breaking a 3-3 tie and allowing the Athletics to go on to a 4-3 victory. Even if New York wins out and Philadelphia drops their remaining games, the Yankees will not be able to catch the Athletics.

No games are scheduled in the American League on September 25. On September 26, Philadelphia and Boston are dark, but the rest of the league has games scheduled. The Athletics final series begins September 27, against Boston, then the two teams wrap up the series with a double header on September 28.
