Pete Suder smacked a two run, walkoff triple, as Philadelphia took a sloppy, error filled, 6-5 win from Boston, in the opener. The Red Sox committed four errors, while Josh Gibson, getting a break from behind the plate, made two miscues in left field. Sam Chapman led the bats with three hits.

As several regulars sat out the final day of the regular season, in preparation for the World Series; Wally Moses led the Athletics to a 5-3 victory, going 3-5, with two doubles and a triple, from the leadoff spot. Tom Ferrick started for just the second time this year. He worked six plus innings, but Lum Harris would pick up the win in relief.
