After striking out in three out of four previous at bats, Sam Chapman redeemed himself in a big way, clubbing a three run home run in the top of the eighth off, Newt Kimball, to lead Philadelphia to a 9-6 win over Brooklyn.

The Athletics now have three games in which to win just one game and if they do, the World Series title is theirs. This game was a battle. Brooklyn scored first, getting a run in the bottom of the second inning, but Philadelphia answered right away, with three runs in the third. A run scored on a Dolph Camilli error and Ray Dandridge and Buck Leonard each drove in a run.

The Dodgers would again take lead in the last of the sixth. They plated three runs, two of them on Pete Reiser’s blast, off Lum Harris. Once again, Philadelphia answered right away, taking a 5-4 lead in the top of the seventh, courtesy of a Buck Leonard, two run wallop. They broke it open in the top of the eighth, getting four runs in all, three on Chapman’s clutch home run.

Brooklyn refused to go away, scoring twice on Tom Ferrick in the eighth. Finally able to finish the inning, Ferrick gave way to Joe Williams, who pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth, in order to earn the save.
