Down two games to none, the National League Champion, Brooklyn Dodgers have battled back to force a seventh game in the 1941 World Series, by defeating Philadelphia, 8-3.
Brooklyn bats chased Bill Foster from the mound after just two innings. Foster allowed six runs on eight hits and for the second game straight, the Dodgers have posted five runs in one inning. Leo Durocher, Bob Medwick and Dolph Camilli all had two hits each.
It was almost a complete reversal of game two, in which Kirby Higbe was sent packing after just two frames, while Foster logged eight innings and the win. This time, Higbe went eight full, giving up three runs on eight hits; while Foster was sent to an early shower.
Leo Durocher has been nothing short of brilliant, since replacing the injured Pee Wee Reese, who was knocked out of the series after getting hit by a Fred Caligiuri pitch in game three. Leo the lip was 3-5, with a pair of doubles and overall, is 7 for 16.
It’s for all the marbles tomorrow, with Caligiuri taking on Fred Fitzsimmons, at Shibe Park.
