The Phenoms fell to the Boston Red Sox, 7-4, as the barnstorming tour of this prized team of freshman stars gets underway.
Pete Alexander started for the Phenoms and though he toiled for seven innings, he did not have an easy time of it. Alex was tagged for five runs, on ten hits. He struck out six batters, but also issued two walks and hit a batter. Mark Eichhorn relieved Alexander, but also struggled, giving up two runs in one inning.
Harry Hooper and Tris Speaker led the offense for the Red Sox. Hooper was 3-5 and Speaker, 3-4, with a double. Red Sox starter, Smokey Joe Wood grinded through a complete game win. He allowed four runs on ten hits, but also fanned eight batters.
