WALTER JOHNSON’S SHUTOUT TRUMPS FERNANDEZ’S EFFORT IN 1-0 LOSS

TOUR RECORD 4-3

PHENOMS 0

SENATORS 1

WP-WALTER JOHNSON LP-JOSE FERNANDEZ(0-1)

Phenoms starter, Jose Fernandez took a no hitter into the seventh inning, but once again, a nearly nonexistent offense cost the game as Walter Johnson and the 1911 Washington Senators prevailed, 1-0.

With neither team able to score a run after six innings, Germany Schaeffer led off the Senators’ seventh inning with a triple. One batter later, he came in on Kid Elberfeld’s sacrifice fly.

That would prove to be the winning run, as the Big Train finished with the complete game shutout. He allowed just three hits and fanned ten.

Definitely a tough loss for Fernandez, who pitched seven full, giving up just the one run on one hit. He also struck out six and hit one batter. Mark Fidrych tossed an inning of relief. Carlton Fisk was held hitless for the first time this year. Dustin Pedroia continues to struggle, going hitless again, with two strikeouts.

MCGRAW AGREES TO GAME; PHENOMS WILL DOUBLE BACK TO NEW YORK TO PLAY THE 1911 GIANTS.

Having initially refused to take part in the Phenoms Barnstorming Tour, New York Giants manager, John McGraw has had a change of heart and instead of heading to Pittsburgh, the Phenoms will return to New York to play the Giants.
