PHENOMS HOLD ON FOR 1-0 WIN AGAINST 1911 CINCINNATI REDS

WP-JOSE FERNANDEZ (1-1) LP-GEORGE SUGGS SV-PETE ALEXANDER(1)

The Phenoms, using six players off the bench, rose to the occasion and defeated the 1911 Cincinnati Reds, 1-0.

Jose Fernandez got the win after toiling six innings. He allowed four hits, struck out five and walked two batters. He and Pete Alexander combined for the shutout, with Alex pitching the final three innings.

The Phenoms got four straight singles off Reds starter, George Suggs, in the top of the fourth, which produced the game’s only run. The bottom of the ninth had some drama for Alexander. He retired the first two batters, but then Dick Egan singled. Eddie Grant then launched a ball into center field, which back up centerfielder, Andre Dawson muffed. The resulting blunder put runners on second and third. Alexander was able to get Larry McLean to ground out to second base, ending the game.
