Troy Tulowitzki had played nearly the whole game at short stop, but was replaced by Luis Aparicio, in the top of the twelfth inning, with the score tied at two all. Little Looie came through with a clutch, two out single. Andre Dawson drilled a double into the corner and the speedy Aparicio scored all the way from first base, putting the Phenoms up front, 3-2. Mark Fidrych, who had pitched the bottom of the eighth, stayed in and put the Giants away in the bottom of the twelfth inning, to preserve the win against the 1920, John McGraw led club.
