The Phenoms jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first, capped by a three-run home run by Frank Robinson. They would add four more runs in the top of the eighth, for a nine-run cushion. Starter, Hideo Nomo’s bid for a shutout was stopped in the bottom of the eighth, when the Phillies broke through for four runs, all unearned, because of a two-run error by Orlando Cepeda.

Dustin Pedroia also committed an error, which led to a run. However, the Philles had four fielding blunders, two by second baseman, Johnny Rawlings.

All the runs against Nomo were unearned, He allowed just two hits, struck out nine and walked three.
