The Phenoms had a 3-2 lead, heading into the bottom of the ninth against the 1920 Chicago White Sox and were poised to win their ninth straight game. Bruce Sutter had relieved starter, Hideo Nomo and had pitched two innings of scoreless ball. Mark Eichhorn was given the task of closing the game out and he fell short.

Eichhorn retired Ray Schalk, to start things off, but then surrendered a single to Nemo Leibold. Eddie Collins followed with a ringing triple into the gap, tying the ball game. Eichhorn fanned Buck Weaver, for the second out, but Eddie Murphy laced a single into center, for the game winner.
