GM# 39. AT 1924 PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES, BAKER BOWL, PHILA, PA.
TOUR RECORD (1924 LEG 7-0) OVERALL (29-10)
TOTAL ANNIHILATION OF PHILLIES, AS PHENOMS PREVAIL, 14-1
PHENOMS 14
PHILLIES 1
WP-JOSE FERNANDEZ (6-1) LP-JIMMY RING
HR-JOE JACKSON (5), WILLIE MAYS (1), FRANK ROBINSON (10), SHONEI OHTANI (1).
In their most lopsided victory on the tour thus far, the Phenoms mounted a twenty-hit attack against an over matched, 1924 Phillies squad and came away with a 14 to 1 win. It was the ninth win in a row for the Phenoms.
It sets a new benchmark for both runs and hits for the traveling squad. Willie Mays and Shonei Ohtani both collected their first home runs, while team leader, Frank Robinson, belted his tenth.
Mays had his best day by far, going three for five, along with five runs batted in. Joe Jackson was again unbelievable from the top of the order. He was five for six, with a homer and a pair of doubles. Frank Robinson was four for five and Ohtani, three for five.
Starting pitcher, Jose Fernandez tossed scoreless ball until he tired in the eighth, finally allowing a run. The Phillies burned through five pitchers in what can only be called a curb stomping.
