Shohei Ohtani, filling in for Eddie Murray in the designated hitter’s spot, hit a rbi single in the top of the tenth, to put the Phenoms ahead of the 1934 Boston Red Sox, 4-3. Bruce Sutter then came in and retired the side in order, earning his fifth save.
Just as important, however, was the four stellar innings of relief, pitched by Mark Fidrych, who came away with the win. Fidrych took over for a struggling, Jose Fernandez, after just four innings. The reliever than tossed four innings of scoreless ball, allowing just two hits, during his time on the mound.
Orlando Cepeda had three hits and Frank Robinson extended his team lead in home runs, with his thirteenth of the tour.
