The 1934 Detroit Tigers snapped a six-game winning streak by the Phenoms, as the defeated the rookie sensations, 2-1.

It was a tough loss for Phenoms’ starter, Jose Fernandez, who worked seven and a third innings. Both runs scored against him were unearned. Joe Jackson and Luis Aparicio, in for Troy Tulowitzki, had the miscues. Though Aparicio had two hits, his error led to a Tigers run in the bottom of the second inning. In addition, Aparicio was thrown out at home by Jo Jo White, while trying to score from first on Orlando Cepeda’s double in the top of the third. Also, Aparicio struck out with two aboard and one out, in the top of the sixth. Cepeda had three hits, and his streak sits at 21 straight games with at least one hit.

Detroit took the lead for good in the last of the eighth. Mickey Cochrane stroked a one out double, then was singled in by Goose Goslin.
