The Phenoms tied the game at five apiece in the top of the ninth. Joe Jackson doubled, then moved to third on Orlando Cepeda’s deep fly to right field. Andre Dawson brought him home with a sacrifice fly.

They went ahead, 6-5, in the top of the tenth, when Willie Mays led off with a double and later, was singled in by Jim Lefebvre.

It was a rough outing for starter, Pete Alexander, who allowed four runs in just five innings. Relievers’ Mark Fidrych and Bruce Sutter were able to shut Chicago down the rest of the way, with Sutter collecting the win.

Cepeda had a single in four trips to the plate, to keep his hitting streak alive at 22 consecutive games.
