The Phenoms took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth, behind Kerry Wood. However, the Reds tagged Wood for four runs, highlighted by a huge, two base error, by Willie Mays.
The rookies would retake the lead in the top of the eighth. Orlando Cepeda first tied the game with a solo home run. After that, two singles and two walks allowed the Phenoms to go out in front, all runs being scored off Bucky Walters, who had relieved Reds’ starter, Elmer Riddle. The Phenoms tagged on an extra run in the top of the ninth, when Joe Jackson doubled and later scored.
Frank Robinson hit a solo homer in the top of the fourth, ending a long homerless streak. He had not gone deep since game #63. Robinson still leads the team by a good margin, as he racks up his 20th, today.
