PHILLIES’ HEINTZELMAN SPINS 3 HIT, COMPLETE GAME AGAINST PHENOMS
PHENOMS 1
PHILLIES 3
WP- KEN HEINTZELMAN LP-VEAN GREGG (10-3)
Philadelphia’s Ken Heintzelman kept the Phenoms off the scoreboard for eight innings, only to lose a shutout bid in the top of the ninth, when an error by Andy Seminick, allowed Joe Jackson to score. It was still a fine effort by Heintzelman, who finished with a three hit, complete game. He did issue five free passes, but the Phenoms couldn’t cash in, save for the one time.
Phenoms starter, Vean Gregg allowed three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Del Ennis’ tripled and later scored on an error by Gregg. Buddy Blattner doubled in the final run of the inning. Johnny Bench gave Carlton Fisk a rest day behind the plate. Bench went 1 for 3. Mark Fidrych was very good in relief of Gregg. He pitched four scoreless innings, allowing three hits and a walk.
