Red-hot Cal Ripken slammed a pair of two run home runs, to lead the Phenoms past the 1949 Pittsburgh Pirates, by a score of 8-4. Ripken now has 17 circuit clouts on the tour. He has hit six on this phase alone and is in hot pursuit of team leader, Frank Robinson, who has 21.

Carlton Fisk also homered and doubled, and Andre Dawson had a triple and a single to round out the offense. Jose Fernandez started and went five and a third but had control issues. He walked five in that span. Mark Fidrych earned the win in relief.
