The Phenoms got to Bob Rush for a five spot in the top of the third. That was the extent of their scoring and was all that was needed, for Kerry Wood held the 1949 Cubs to one run on just four hits, in seven innings of work.
Mark Eichhorn was incredible in relief over the final two innings. He pitched no hit ball, while fanning four of the six batters he faced. Orlando Cepeda led the offense with three hits.
