Stan Musial belted a three-run home run as part of a four-run fifth inning, as the 1949 phase ended with a 6-4 loss by the Phenoms.
Hideo Nomo started for the Phenoms and was only able to go four innings. Mark Fidrych and Mark Eichhorn mopped up in relief. Both pitched well, but by then, the damage was done.
Several reserves played in this game. Johnny Bench led the way, with three hits.
