The Phenoms dug a 4-0 hole against Bobby Schantz and the 1951 Philadelphia Athletics. They were able to tie the game in the top of the seventh, highlighted by back-to-back triples by Willie Mays and Andre Dawson.
However, the Athletics were able to answer right back, scoring two more off starter, Vean Gregg. The Phenom’s starter had control issues, and it showed. He walked seven and hit a batter.
The visitors were able to climb to within one, when Frank Robinson belted his 26th home run in the top of the eighth but could get no closer.
