WP- HIDEO NOMO (11-5) LP-GERRY STALEY

After dropping his last three decisions, Hideo Nomo got back on track, with a 4-1 victory over the 1951 St. Louis Cardinals. That wraps up the 1951 phase. A recap will follow soon. This game was a good pitcher’s duel between Nomo and Staley, until the Cards broke through with a run in the bottom of the seventh. However, the Phenoms roared back in the eighth, getting a one out double from Troy Tulowitzki. That was followed by an infield single from Joe Jackson, then a two-run base hit from Andre Dawson. Eddie Murphy hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning, for the third run. The Phenoms added one more in the ninth, on the back of a Red Schoendienst error.
