1951 PHASE REVIEW
This was by far, the toughest phase for the Phenoms thus far. They had seven losses out of sixteen games and only a five-game winning streak at the end, allowed them to finish with a winning, 9-7 record.
It was the second phase with no extra inning games, the first being the 1924 block. The Phenoms managed two shutouts, one, 3-0, by Pete Alexander, versus the ’51 Yankees and the other, a 5-0 win, by Vean Gregg, against the ’51 White Sox. The Phenoms themselves were blanked by Robin Roberts, 3-0, when they played the ’51 Phillies.
The biggest win came in the opener against the Boston Red Sox, which the Phenoms won, 12-6. Interestingly, those six runs were the most scored against the Phenoms in this leg of the tour.
