The Boston Red Sox opened the 1956 phase of the tour with a 5-2 win over the Phenoms. Ted Williams belted a three-run home run in the last of the fifth. Vean Gregg started but lasted only five innings, allowing three earned runs and one unearned, in that span. Mark Fidrych pitched the final three frames, allowing one run on just one hit, however, he issued three walks.
