WP- HIDEO NOMO (12-5) LP- CHUCK STOBBS
The Phenoms ended a five-game losing skid, thanks to a stellar performance by Hideo Nomo. The lefty spun a three-hit shutout of the ’56 Washington Senators, in a 4-0 win, giving the Phenoms their first win in the current phase.
Nomo struck out eleven, his third straight start with double digit strikeouts. He walked just one batter and had one balk. It was a pitching battle between Nomo and Chuck Stobbs, until the top of the seventh. In that inning, the Phenoms loaded the bases on two singles and an error. Troy Tulowitzki then laced a bases clearing triple into the corner. A Joe Jackson sacrifice fly than plated Tulowitzki, with the fourth tally of the game for the Phenoms.
