After a fifteen-inning marathon in game 119, several bench players gave several starters a much-needed rest. Coupled with seven solid innings from starter, Jose Fernandez, the Phenoms defeated the ’56 Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-4.
Pittsburgh got the first tallies of the game in the bottom of the fourth, on a two-run home run by Frank Thomas. The Phenoms would score three runs in the top of the sixth, thanks to back-to-back errors by Thomas and Dick Groat. The team would add three more runs in the very next inning, sparked by a two-run triple by Shonei Ohtani, the designated hitter. Ohtani added a pair of singles, for a great day replacing, Eddie Murray. Willie Mays (0-4, two strikeouts and a walk) and Johnny Bench (0-3, sacrifice fly and two strikeouts), continue to be huge disappointments.
NEXT GAME: AT 1956 CLEVELAND INDIANS
