Dick Groat stepped up in the bottom of the ninth, with two out and none on and sent a Mark Eichhorn offering over the wall in right field, to give the 1958 Pittsburgh Pirates, a 3-2 win over the Phenoms.

Pittsburgh scored first, in the last of the second inning, when Ted Kluszewski doubled and later, Bill Mazeroski tripled him in. The Phenoms would take a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth, on a two-run clout by Cal Ripken.

In the bottom of the eighth, another, triple double combo allowed the Pirates to tie the game. This time it was Roberto Clemente who tripled and then scored on Bob Skinner’s two bagger. That set the stage for Groat’s dramatic home run.

A solid outing by Kerry Wood was wasted. He went seven innings, allowing one run on just three hits.

NEXT GAME: AT 1958 CLEVELAND INDIANS
