A record setting day for the Phenoms, as a new benchmark for home runs in a game by both teams, was set. The Indians and Phenoms combined for nine circuit clouts, breaking the old house record of seven. It’s also the first time that three players have each hit two or more home runs in one game.
Most impressively, this was done, largely with bench players. Joe Jackson, Andre Dawson, Eddie Murray and Carlton Fisk, were the only regulars to start. The Phenoms led, 12-3, after six innings, with Cleveland scoring five runs over the last three innings. Ohtani and Fisk, each had a pair of home runs, Dawson added another. For the Indians, Colavito hit two, with Power and Minoso adding one each.
The Phenoms also tied their high mark for runs in a game with 15. They had previously attained this mark, also against Cleveland, in the 1924 phase. Strangely, in this phase, the team has taken on a pattern of alternating wins and losses. They will try to change that, when they play the Tigers.
NEXT GAME: AT 1958 DETROIT TIGERS
