WP- DON MCMAHON LP-MARK EICHHORN (6-9)
It’s hard not to feel bad for Vean Gregg. He toiled for ten innings, at one point retiring 17 batters in a row, but ultimately falling short in a 3-2, 12 inning decision. With the score tied at two apiece, Frank Torre led off the bottom of the twelfth inning with a double off reliever, Mark Eichhorn. With the winning run on second base, Johnny Logan launched a sinking line drive towards Frank Robinson in left field. The ball clanked off Robinson’s glove and rolled to the wall, as Logan raced home with the game winner.
Warren Spahn was tremendous as well for Milwaukee. He pitched 9 innings, giving up two runs, on six hits. He struck out three, walked two and hit one batter.
