HIDEO NOMO OUTDUELS WARREN SPAHN IN 1-0 WIN

PHENOMS 1

BRAVES 0

WP-HIDEO NOMO (15-8) LP-WARREN SPAHN

Orlando Cepeda’s solo home run in the top of the second inning was the difference maker in this classic pitcher’s duel, won by the Phenoms, 1-0. Both Warren Spahn and Hideo Nomo went the full nine innings. Spahn scattered eight hits, with Cepeda’s hit, obviously, the big blow. The Phenoms missed several scoring opportunities. Joe Jackson led off the game with a triple and was stranded. The team had runners in scoring position three more times yet came away empty.

Nomo held the Braves scoreless on just two hits. He struck out nine, but his bugaboo in this game were walks. He issued five free passes. Fortunately, for him, not of those were cashed in by Milwaukee. It was Hideo’s sixth shutout of the tour.

NEXT GAME: AT 1960 CHICAGO WHITE SOX
